Lead Pastor Job Description

Radiant Life Church is a Christian church whose overall mission is to lead people to become fully devoted followers of Christ. They connect people to God and one another through a relational perspective and approach that focuses on being a spiritual community rather than just an organization. Radiant Life Church is dedicated to living out their faith together as they serve each other and their community as they proclaim the gospel to those who do not believe and pursue the ongoing renovation of their own lives by the grace of God found in the gospel. 

The Win:  Implement a strategy for growing the church, both numerically and spiritually, define and develop the unique identity of the church, blaze a clear path for people to become fully-devoted followers of Jesus.

Primary Purpose of this Position:

• The primary role of the Lead Pastor is to cast and implement the vision for the church, develop the leaders, and preach regularly.

• To provide spiritual leadership and direction to the church and its members by inspiring them to live out their faith in Jesus Christ on a daily basis.

• To lead and inspire the staff to live out their faith through spiritual guidance and leadership and being a living example. 

• To ensure that the church is living out its purpose by monitoring its growth and making necessary changes as needed.

Position Responsibilities:

• Plans and conducts worship services, developing sermons, planning with music leadership, and leads all church services. 

• Leads the congregation in spiritual guidance and living out their faith in Jesus Christ

• Leads and demonstrates effective ways to witness and win the lost to salvation through Jesus Christ

• Set the vision and direction for the church, with the assistance of the Overseers

• Have primary oversight of all paid ministry staff, and mentor them to grow personally, professionally, spiritually, and in their ministry. Oversees and handles various staff meetings.

• Cultivate a strong relationship-building church culture exemplified through their actions in leadership. 

• Oversee church discipline matters and manage conflicts in the church. Seek to reconcile relationships and promote unity within the church. 

• Provide Biblical counsel, as deemed appropriate, and provide references with trusted professionals when a person's needs are beyond the pastor's abilities and training.

• Perform other duties as needed.

Qualifications:

• High School Diploma/GED required

• Some College/Associate's degrees in ministry-related coursework required

• Ordained Minister

• You are ready to do anything short of sin to help people know the love of Jesus. 

• You love to help people go from lost to found and become fully-devoted followers of Jesus Christ. 

• You are excellent with leadership, vision, mission, values, communication, church technology trends, relationships, social media, branding, theology, Biblical teaching.

• Strong time management skills

• Ability to multi-task and handle various projects simultaneously

• Maintains proper relationships with his family and church members.

• Maintains a vital and growing personal walk with the Lord through committed Bible study, prayer, and meditation.

• Maintain proper priorities at home and be the spiritual leader to spouse and children, if married.

• Financially support the work of ministries at the church through the tithe and offerings. Maintain wise stewardship over personal finances.

• Spouse: The only expectation for your spouse is the same for any other church member.

Role as a Preacher/Teacher:

• Ensure quality biblical, gospel-centered preaching.

• Oversee the planning and scheduling of preaching.

• Oversee the content of Biblical teaching and ensure that those who preach are in sync with each message.

• Provide approximately 70% of the preaching at Radiant Life

• Meet with and develop new communicators through assessing their teaching and mentoring them to be more effective communicators.

• Provide Small Group Leaders with sermon notes and discussion questions on the Friday prior to the Sunday the corresponding sermon is preached.

Role as Administrator: 

• Give full support to the General Operating Budget 

• Oversee the administration and management of all areas of the church’s ministries in consultation with the Overseer body and staff.

• Adhere to the Church Bylaws and Policies, and Procedures adopted by the church. 

Outreach and Community Leadership:

• Implement opportunities that reach out to the inactive attendees, unchurched and new residents of our community with the Gospel of Jesus Christ.

• Encourage all organizations and ministries of the church to carry out their work and exercise their gifts to participate in the mission work of Christ.

Stewardship:

• Promote, educate, model, and advocate responsible Biblical stewardship in the congregation.

• Assist the Overseers and the finance team with financial matters in the church.

Pastoral Care:

• In conjunction with others in the church, provide pastoral care through visitation, counseling, and prayer.

• Make appropriate referrals when necessary and quickly respond to crisis situations that arise in the church.

Role as an Overseer: 

• Provide an ongoing overview for the Overseer Body regarding the exploration and implementation of our vision.

• In conjunction with Overseer Chairman: 

• Plan and lead quarterly vision exploration meetings.

• Maintain regular contact with all Overseers. 

• Preach, teach, counsel, as needed, and assign others as appropriate.

Radiant Life is a growing church that reaches those that are new believers or have been hurt by church in the past. The leadership of Radiant Life is strategically seeking someone to help develop spiritual disciplines in our congregation, specifically tithing and generosity. There is a great opportunity for development and future growth financially. 

Compensation Package: 

Radiant Life is seeking a bi-vocational pastor for this role. The compensation budget is $40,000 per year, which may be structured as a combination of salary and housing allowance, in accordance with applicable guidelines. Compensation reflects the bi-vocational nature of the position and the anticipated time commitment, and will be adjusted based on the experience of the candidate and the scope of responsibilities agreed upon.

We believe that when gifts are used in a service, they have to be used in an orderly way and the purpose should be to help show every person attending that service the power of God.
